Super Spawn and I had a great time with you.  We really enjoyed the movie and playing at the book store, but why did you have to go so quickly?  Please come back.  I'll buy you ice cream.

I don't know what you did to Super Spawn, but it wasn't very nice.  All I wanted was a quiet day at home.  When your mother points out the pulsing vein in your forehead, I think the opposite has come to fruition.  Go away.

**Disclaimer:  I am in no way complaining.  I love Super Spawn through and through, he was just a little more challenging than usual on Sunday.  That's all.  I didn't have any coffee on Sunday, and I'm sure that didn't help anything. lol**

Did you all have lovely weekends?  I hope so.  It's back to work today, my friends.  I've got two betas to get to as well as the work I'm doing on my own MS.  Great fun!  Here's to hoping for a nice, smooth week.  The day job should calm down for me some this week.  Hopefully.  :)

Mommy Monday

Life is all a balancing act. We all have our obligations and desires. This week I thought we'd talk about keeping a balance between writing and family and work.



I know there are probably no two of us in the same situation, but knowing how others handle that precarious balance may help someone even out their life. A friend and I were talking the other day about the workaholic type people we know who don't seem to know how to "turn it off" even if they go on vacation. Everything is about work to them.

The conversation got me thinking (I know, it's dangerous when I think) about all the things I balance in life without letting one run over the other.

1. Super-Spawn
2. Work
3. Writing
4. Other family
5. Social Life
6. Housework

You get the picture. The point is, what can we do to make sure we aren't cheating ourselves, or the ones we love, out of a fair share of US? Which we know is what they all most want.

My life is divided into sections:

The work week- Days, work. (Lunch, writing, and a weekly lunch with my cousin) Evenings, Super Spawn. Nights, writing related things.

Saturdays- If it's my weekend with SS, I take him somewhere fun (the movies, a museum, a play place in town, etc) and invite our friends. If it's not- I get some quality me-time where I do whatever I want. May be that I write, go out with friends, whatever.

Sundays- Almost always devoted to housework.

And you better believe we live on a schedule within that schedule. Otherwise I'd never keep it all up. I manage to work, be a mom, write, have a social life (if a limited one), and get the house clean every single week.

It's Food Allergy Awareness Week!

Spreading awareness, spreading safety for our food allergic children.

Even one bite could kill a child with food allergies.

The number of children with food allergies rose 18% between 1997 and 2007, according to the CDC. EIGHTEEN PERCENT. That is HUGE. Over 12 million Americans have food allergies. Over 3 million of those are children.

We need to fight for our cause, stand up and stand out. Find the cause, find the CURE!

We also had family pictures made this weekend. Isn't my Super-Spawn so stinking cute?! The photos were taken by the fabulous Brett Butler. He also did some head-shots for my website, so those will be up soon!


In other (not so) fun news- I've fractured a couple bones in my foot. I'm such a klutz! I should really just stay stationed at my computer all the time so as to not injure myself. Super-Spawn also has an infection in a cut on his leg. Greeeat. Ever had to give a toddler 2 different oral antibiotics and rub him in cream three times a day? Is. Not. Fun. He's a pretty good sport as long as I promise him coke. Hey, whatever it takes right? He doesn't need to know his coke is all natural and made from organic ingredients. Just like his cookies. Sneaky mom strikes again!

Do any of my other lovely blog friends live in Florida? I am so looking forward to the 9th Annual Florida Writers Conference! It is being held in Orlando, FL October 22-24 this year. I'm already saving to make the trip. I'm also planning to enter the 2010 Royal Palm Literary Competition with Emerald this year.
