Steampunk Month FTW!! Today, I'm recommending an awesome steampunk that Susan is having a contest for over on her blog. Make sure you're entered for your chance to win!
LEVIATHAN
By Scott Westerfeld
Blurb from Goodreads: "Prince Aleksander, would-be heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, is on the run. His own people have turned on him. His title is worthless. All he has is a battletorn war machine and a loyal crew of men. Deryn Sharp is a commoner, disguised as a boy in the British Air Service. She's a brilliant airman. But her secret is in constant danger of being discovered. With World War I brewing, Alek and Deryn's paths cross in the most unexpected way…taking them on a fantastical, around-the-world adventure that will change both their lives forever."
*swoon*
Westerfeld is a master at world building. The world he created here, the beasties and machiens, are just amazing. I seriously am just in awe at his brilliance.
From page one it's an action-packed adventure. Not once did I find myself bored or feeling overwhelmed with detail, even though there is *so* much to learn about this alternate world. The descriptions are seamlessly woven into the action, leaving you salivating for more.
And the characters are jump-off-the-page good. Alek and Deryn both have very distinctive voices, and are easy to tell apart as the story shifts between their POV.
Be ready though, when you pick this up, you won't want to put it down. ;)

Dude is there any Scott Westerfeild CAN"T write. Oh, he's SO good. So very very very good.
Still haven't read anything from Scott Westerfield. *ducks and hides*
I'm a total Westerfeld fangirl too.
Loved Leviathan...and that's saying a lot since I'm not totally sure about the whole steampunk thing yet...Overall, I still lean toward sci-fi/dystopian and his Uglies series.
Thanks for the shout-out, Holly!! Much appreciated. :D
This one is in the pile from my last library run. Thanks for the recommendation, because I was kind of hesitating over it.
I'm totally excited to read this. I love Scott Westerfeld!
There are pictures in the book, right? Oh, and I loved the opening of Leviathan. :)
Have yet to read anything bad about this book. May just download it soon. :)
