In fact, that shiny new idea that keeps cropping up? It's a Steampunk.
Doesn't that make you want to squeal from excitement?!
It should, but most people I've told about my SNI respond like this, "What is Steampunk?"
*Gasp* Allow me to enlighten you.
Wiki says,"Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s.[1] Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; in other words, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc. This technology may include such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne or real technologies like the computer but developed earlier in an alternate history."
An example I always use is THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN. Also LEVIATHAN by Scott Westerfeld.
So, in celebration of Susan's Steampunk month, I am going to feature some of the research I've been doing for that SNI, and I'll be reading some Steampunk novels to recommend to you guys.
This is going to be so fun! Do you guys love Steampunk as much as I do?

It's a pretty cool genre, visually it's amazing. Leviathan was AMAZING!!!!!!
Yeah I'm looking forward to reading your reviews. WOOT
WEEEEE! We're dominating the world with steampunk, one corset at a time. ;)
Ooooh! I love steampunk! Do you think that would be an appropriate day of study for a 3 yr old? ;)
Super awesome! I just picked up Leviathan from the library. Looking forward to hearing more about your project!
That's wicked! Victorian is definitely one of my favourite historical time periods. And you mentioned Jules Verne and HG Wells - they're in the series "The Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica" (GREAT series) but I have no clue who they are. Help?
Very cool. Hubby and I went to a steampunk exhibit over the fall. There was a steampunk pinball machine. How awesome is that?
Woohoo! Can't wait to read about your research...great idea. I love steampunk!
I think the only thing I've read that classifies as steampunk is CLOCKWORK ANGEL, but the genre definitely interests me, I just haven't picked any of it up yet! I love the Victorian era, and I think this is one genre I need to concentrate on finding more of! Congrats on having such an awesome genred shiny new idea (if that is even a sentence, lol).
Ooh, good luck with your idea! I've never read any steampunk, but Clockwork Angel is in my TBR pile. :)
Sweet! I really haven't read much (read: only LEVIATHAN) but I like the *idea* of it a lot. It'll be great to benefit from your research!
